Finding “The One”

"If you lived to be one hundred, I want to live one hundred minus one day, so I would never have to live a day without you." Everyone longs and dreams to find “the one.” It starts young, in the story books and then into our adulthood with the oh so emotional romance movies on Lifetime. There is no denying that we all long for that kind of love. The kind that makes you say, “Is this really happening?” I for one am very guilty of that. I dream of my love story being like a country music video. As silly as that sounds, I think that hopes and dreams like that help shape what and who we are ultimately looking for. Jessica and Matt – June 4, 2016

Florist: Lucille's Floral of Fishkill Photographer: Erica Lee Photography “When two hearts are meant for each other no distance is so far, no time is so long, and no other love can break them apart.” I'll never forget the day when this beautiful couple walked into my office with their precious daughter Ava. From the moment I met them, I just knew that they belonged here. Their gracious, fun and gentle personalities beautifully matched their wedding colors and decor, and their pure love for one another was nothing short of magical. This truly is what it is all about. Hugs and Kisses, Mallory

Wedding Favor Ideas

Wedding favors can be a tricky tradition to get right. You don't want to get your guests something that they will toss to the side, forget about and never use, but you don't want to spend a ton of money on TOP of all the other wedding expenses. Thankfully we live in an age where Pinterest and DIY trends are all the rage and can be a huge help in finding affordable, yet useful, favors. Below you will find wedding favors couples have given to their guests at West Hills in the past. Having a favor that is actually useful is key, allowing you to rest assured that the money you spent is going to use, not to waste. Blooming Favors Affordable, beautiful, and incredibly sturdy, small succulents make great wedding favors, especially when you plant them [...]

Friday and Sunday Weddings

You and your fiancee have finally found the perfect venue that has everything you have ever envisioned for your big day, congrats! Except there is one problem... all of their Saturdays are booked. This is an issue many couples find themselves facing, not realizing that weddings typically book two years in advance. (especially those prime dates!) Then this leads you to the next question, what is more important- your dream wedding venue or your dream date? Having a wedding on a Friday or Sunday has become the popular alternative and opens the door to different options at your venue. Are a majority of your guests traveling from out of town? A Sunday wedding gives them plenty of time to travel to your wedding location and unwind. This often gives your guests an excuse for a mini vacation... [...]

Groom’s Cake or No Groom’s Cake?

Long ago, in addition to the main wedding cake there was an entire separate cake that was served as a favor to the guests to take home. According to a long forgotten social custom, the single women would take a slice of the cake home and place it under their pillow when they went to sleep that night. This was supposed to bring them sweet dreams of their future hubby... hence the name grooms cake. Today, the groom's cake has made a come back and we are seeing it at many weddings but for very different reasons. It is typically a bride's gift to the groom that reflects his personality or interests. Of course the wedding cake has some opportunity to incorporate the couples style and taste, but the grooms cake has the freedom to be more informal and sometimes even [...]

What’s Hot for 2016- Top Wedding Trends

I came across an article that I thought would interest our 2016 wedding couples. I pulled a few trends from WeddingWire's Kim Forrest's list of what's hot for this years wedding season. Read below! Top Wedding Trends for 2016: Flowers and Greenery Hanging from Ceilings and Covering Walls Floral creations aren’t just for reception tables anymore! We’re seeing floral arrangements in unique places—including hanging from venue ceilings and covering walls to create a memorable photo backdrop (remember the famous photo from Kim and Kanye’s wedding?). High Ballerina Buns While many brides are still loving the loose, romantic look, we’re also seeing more and more brides wearing their hair in more structured ballerina-inspired updos. We love how this style keeps the hair out of the face all night long! Expanding Social Media Presence 2015 was [...]

Robert & Stephanie – September 20, 2015

My situation with some couples booked at West Hills is a bit unique. Elora, another event coordinator in our office, left our facility to go back to school and pursue a different career path. Along with that, she left behind couples she had been working with. I will be completely honest, I am always a bit nervous when meeting with these new couples for the first time because I am not sure how they will react to working with somebody new. I understand though, trusting a new face when it comes your wedding day might be a bit nerve racking! The first time I met Stephanie was at her menu visit. Both her and her mother came in to pick our their food choices, table linens, waterfall colors and much more. It didn't take very long for [...]

Choose the Perfect Signature Cocktail

Your signature cocktail- one of the fun details to decide on when planning your wedding at West Hills. The specialty drink is served a half hour before the cocktail hour begins (or ceremony if you are getting married on-site). A well-picked signature cocktail can be a great way to express yourselves as a couple and make festivities, well, more festive.  But keep in mind, even though it might be your happy hour usual, I'm not so sure your grandfather is going to enjoy sipping on your Very Pink Raspberry Cosmopolitan garnished with hot pink sugar. (...but hey, if he does, I'm not one to judge!) I usually recommend couples to pick a "his and hers" or "sweet and dry" so you will have something for everyone's palette. Or, pick something that runs in the middle of the road, such as a bourbon [...]

Wedding Traditions- Where Did They Come From?

Did you know that a popular wedding tradition is based off of... kidnapping? Weird, I know. There are so many traditions- The white dress, a wedding cake, the bouquet and garter toss... the list goes on and on. Have you ever wondered when or why these traditions began? I did some research and put together some interesting wedding facts that explain some of the most common wedding traditions and rituals. Why that finger for the engagement ring? The Ring Finger is the 4th finger on the left hand because people used to believe that that finger had a vein that led directly to the heart. White Dress Queen Victoria started the trend for white weddings when she commissioned a white lace gown for her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840. Before that, brides just wore their best dresses on [...]
