It Means What? It Came From Where?

Ever wonder where "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" came from? Or why sometimes a glass gets broken during a ceremony? Read more to find out about some of the most popular wedding superstitions and practices—and their origins.   Stylish Hip Weddings Photography Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue - We've all heard this rhyme used when someone gets married, but what does it mean? Wearing "something old" represents the bride's past, while the "something new" symbolizes the couple's happy future. The bride is supposed to get her "something borrowed" from someone who is happily married in the hope that some of that person's good fortune rubs off on her. "Something blue" denotes fidelity and love. Ricky Restiano Photography Wearing a Veil - This custom traces its roots back [...]

Denise & Neal – February 17, 2017

When it comes to weddings, many people would agree that the winter months are not the most desirable in the Hudson Valley. Indeed spring, summer, and fall weddings are lovely, but we think there’s something absolutely charming about saying your “I do's” with a gorgeous wintry backdrop. Winter weddings are magical and romantic, and Denise and Neal's wedding at West Hills Country Club is a perfect example of that. Denise and Neal are both avid skiers, so it only made perfect sense to have their wedding during their favorite season. At one of our first meetings, Denise showed me pictures of a winter wonderland theme she was going for, and man, did she nail it. On their wedding day, our Indoor Ballroom completely transformed into an enchanted, glowing, wintry atmosphere.  The room looked amazing with [...]

Your Guide to Our Golf Course – Where to Take Amazing Wedding Day Pictures

"Where are the best places to take pictures on the course?" is a common question I receive from couples. To be honest, there are SO many different areas to get pictures on the West Hills golf course. We have willow trees, a bridge crossing the Wallkill River, wild flowers, a tunnel, and much more. Here is a guide to some of the most popular picture spots you will want to make sure you take advantage of on your wedding day. Hole 11 - The Bridge This is the most popular and iconic spot on our course. The historic suspension bridge was built in 1928 and crosses over the Wallkill River. It is centrally located on the course making it easily accessible for you and your new husband or wife. Popography [...]

Finding “The One”

"If you lived to be one hundred, I want to live one hundred minus one day, so I would never have to live a day without you." Everyone longs and dreams to find “the one.” It starts young, in the story books and then into our adulthood with the oh so emotional romance movies on Lifetime. There is no denying that we all long for that kind of love. The kind that makes you say, “Is this really happening?” I for one am very guilty of that. I dream of my love story being like a country music video. As silly as that sounds, I think that hopes and dreams like that help shape what and who we are ultimately looking for. Is it true there are 5 languages of love?

“If we learn to meet each other’s deep emotional need to feel loved, and choose to do it, the love we share will be exciting beyond anything we’ve ever felt.” —Gary Chapman Ever had an argument with your partner and the phrase “You just don’t get it,” or “I’m not a mind reader” entered the conversation?...Yeah, I’m pretty sure we have all been there. If they only knew how you were feeling and truly understood where your point of view was coming from. That’s basically of the idea behind the concept of love languages. It's breaking down the 5 different ways people love, and understanding those differences. By doing this, and really applying some of the tools learned, you can make any relationship flourish. This concept was created by Dr. Gary Chapman, and in my [...]

Is a First Look a Good Idea?

If you are planning a wedding, I am sure the thought of doing a first look has crossed your mind. The debate between seeing your partner before the ceremony or waiting until the ceremony to see one another can be taunting. Which is the right choice? Before I go any further, let me explain what a first look is. A first look is a new and modern trend where the couple has the opportunity to see one another before the wedding ceremony. One person is usually positioned looking away out over the golf course, by the willow trees , or someplace with a beautiful back drop. Then, their partner will meet them and they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. This very intimate and highly anticipated moment [...]

Jessica and Matt – June 4, 2016

Florist: Lucille's Floral of Fishkill Photographer: Erica Lee Photography “When two hearts are meant for each other no distance is so far, no time is so long, and no other love can break them apart.” I'll never forget the day when this beautiful couple walked into my office with their precious daughter Ava. From the moment I met them, I just knew that they belonged here. Their gracious, fun and gentle personalities beautifully matched their wedding colors and decor, and their pure love for one another was nothing short of magical. This truly is what it is all about. Elizabeth & Matthew – June 3, 2016

I had met with Elizabeth and Matthew for the first time back in August of last year. When the couple came in with her parents, you could feel the excitement in the room. They were on the search for their dream wedding venue and after one more week of continuous searching, they let me know that they had finally found it. One thing that stood out to me during my time planning with them is how Elizabeth's sweet and warm personality balanced perfectly with Matthew's energetic and goofy side. They truly fit so well together. June 3rd finally approached and the wedding was nothing short of spectacular. The soft pink, white and blush colors [...]

Watch 100 Years Of Wedding Dresses In 3 Minutes!

Ch-ch-ch-changes. David Bowie said it best. The perfect soundtrack for the evolution and growth of wedding fashion. Recently, Huffington Post posted a really fun video showing the ever changing styles of wedding dresses. Within the last couple of years, the vintage style has definitely made a comeback, and I have to say, I'm a huge fan. Lots of lace, birdcage veils, and even broach bouquets. I love the idea of taking something with a little history and making it fit in today's world. Then again, after watching the video, maybe there are some styles that should stay in the past. Ha! What do you think about the wedding styles from back then? Check it out here!   Hugs and Kisses, Mallory
