As crazy as this sounds, this winter weather today has me thinking about the summer in the Hudson Valley. So I’ve put together 5 items/things that you will want to make sure you have at your West Hills wedding.

Your sunscreen! You worked so hard all season long on NOT having tan lines, so stick to it on your wedding day. Especially if you have really fair skin. So lather up with a non-greasy sunscreen and stay in the shade as much as possible when taking your photos. Trust me, your pictures (and skin) will thank you.

Fans at the ceremony. Place a small, handheld fan on each guest’s chair so they can stay cool during the ceremony. Better yet, have them double as a ceremony program!

A backup boutonniere for the groom. His boutonniere will wilt faster than you can say “I do!” The summer heat combined with hug after hug could certainly lead to a mini disaster. So to keep him looking fresh and fab all day, order an extra boutonniere for back up.

Drink Water! Seriously. You need to drink water on your wedding day. I know it’s not the first thing on your list of priorities, but it should be. It’s not just a trick to avoid a hangover on the day after, it’s to stay hydrated, focused, happy and glowing in your pictures.

Scheduling portraits at high noon = BAD IDEA. When the sun is directly overhead it can cast harsh light and create dark shadows and over exposure. A shaded area is the way to go. Believe it or not, photographers prefer not to take photos in the direct sun. So, if possible, schedule your portrait session for mid-morning, late afternoon or early evening to ensure you get AMAZING shots.
